Why Expectant Mothers Choose Chiropractic Care
As the body prepares for birth, the hormone relaxin loosens ligaments throughout the pelvis and sacrum. Without proper support, this flexibility can translate into low-back pain, sciatica, round ligament tension, and pelvic imbalance. Chiropractic adjustments address each of these directly — without medication and without any technique that places pressure on the abdomen.
At Ironwood Spine and Joint we use a specially designed adjusting table with a drop-away abdominal piece, pregnancy bolsters, and side-posture positioning so every visit is both safe and genuinely comfortable at any stage of pregnancy.
Common Conditions We Address
- ✓Low-back and sacroiliac pain
- ✓Sciatica and posterior pelvic pain
- ✓Round ligament tension
- ✓Mid-back and rib discomfort
- ✓Pubic symphysis discomfort (SPD)
- ✓Neck and shoulder tension from postural shift
- ✓Headaches related to cervical strain
The Benefits
What Consistent Care Can Do for You
Regular prenatal chiropractic visits support a more comfortable pregnancy and may contribute to a smoother labor and delivery experience.
Reduced Pelvic Pain
Restoring pelvic balance relieves the sacroiliac and pubic joint stress that builds throughout pregnancy.
Optimal Fetal Positioning
A balanced pelvis creates more room for the baby to settle into the best position as the due date approaches.
Less Low-Back Tension
Spinal adjustments address lumbar and thoracic tension that compounds as the center of gravity shifts.
Better Sleep Quality
Reduced musculoskeletal tension helps expectant mothers find more restful, sustainable sleep positions.
Postpartum Recovery Support
Care continues after delivery to help the pelvis and spine return to their pre-pregnancy alignment.
What to Expect
Your First Prenatal Visit, Step by Step
Intake and Pregnancy History
We review your obstetric history, trimester, any complications your midwife or OB has noted, and your current pain or discomfort profile. This shapes every decision we make during care.
Postural and Pelvic Assessment
We evaluate spinal alignment, pelvic symmetry, and sacroiliac motion using gentle orthopedic tests appropriate for pregnancy — no X-rays required or recommended.
Positioning and Table Setup
Our adjusting table has a drop-away abdominal section and we use body pillows and wedges so you can lie comfortably in a supported side-posture or inclined position — never flat on your stomach.
Gentle Adjustment
Low-force spinal and pelvic adjustments are delivered using the Webster Technique and modified diversified methods. Techniques are selected and adapted to your trimester and comfort throughout.
Home Care and Visit Plan
We close every appointment with tailored stretches, sleeping position guidance, and a visit schedule that fits your stage of pregnancy — adapting as you progress toward your due date and into the postpartum period.
